What better way to celebrate the Mexican army’s victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla than with a fiesta afuera?! 🍽🇲🇽 Our #tabletopdecor for this #alfrescodining photoshoot isn’t just pretty to look at—it’s design takes inspiration from a few pieces of Mexican history and culture: •Marigolds are traditionally used (especially in ofertas during #diadelosmuertos) and are believed to represent the fragility of life. •Mexican #earthenware pottery such as #terracotta has been around since the time of the Olmecs and was considered one of the highest art forms during the Aztec Empire. The knowledge of making pottery is said to have come from the god Quetzalcoatl himself. •The abundance of colors in crafts and other constructions extended back into pre-Hispanic times. #KentuckyDerby Vibes 🥃🐎 inspired by a little race happening today at #ChurchillDowns in #LouisvilleKY 😉 Thought I’d show a little throwback 💚 and #cheers to the Derby’s long-standing drink of choice: The Mint Julep! I partnered with some of my faves last year on behalf of @westelm Chicago to style @_valcohol ‘s modern twist on this classic drink—The Toasted Cacao Nib Mint Julep! 🥃MAKE YOUR OWN AT HOME🥃 - 2 oz Union Horse Distilling Reserve Straight Bourbon - 0.75 oz toasted cacao nib syrup** - Handful fresh mint to muddle, plus a sprig for garnish - Crushed ice **To make syrup, toast 1/2 cup cacao nibs in the oven on low broil for 5 minutes and finish on high for about a minute or until you can smell the toasted cacao scent. Remove cacao nibs from the oven and combine with 2 cups water and 1/2 cup turbinado sugar in a small saucepan. Simmer for 15 minutes, then strain.
